Manhattanhenge or Manhattan Solstice
It’s a beautiful phenomenon that happens twice a year when the sun perfectly lines up with Manhattan’s grid.
I want to share some pictures that I took today (July 12th, 2009) from the Pulaski Bridge of Manhattanhenge on and around 38th street:
The waiting starts on the Pulaski Bridge

While buildings and objects are illuminated by the beautiful sunlight

At 8:00pm the sun starts kissing the buildings…

While the sun is hiding, let’s admire the beautiful skyline

The sun’s reflection appears from the other side of the building and looks like a “double sun”

Hiding again between buildings

Another peek and he’s on his way to pass through 38th street

Let’s just wait to see him coming…

8:22pm Enjoy your Manhattanhenge

great dramatic pictures. i’ll look at your blog more. check mine out.
I’m wondering if you should’ve taken a trip to the city and taken a picture in one of the streets to see how the shadows look like from within
@Will vandorp: Thanks for the comment!.. Nice boats you have there!
@Gubatron: I thought that too but everybody was down there.. to many people, so I tried a different spot. The reflection on the buildings are very nice.. I just didn’t want to be in this crow http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3436/3717378328_e257628c9d_o.jpg
